Established in 2005, Assisting Success are a consultancy who specialise in providing engineering and project management and support services in the Utilities, Rail, Infrastructure and Renewables sectors across the UK.

Our collaborative approach and experienced utilities and project management team have helped to build strong relationships with clients, supporting projects like HS2 and the Network Rail Thameslink programme at the redevelopments at both London Bridge and Blackfriars stations.

We also ensure that you pay exactly what you need by applying our knowledge on the commercial arrangements with Statutory undertakers which often saves clients significant sums allowing us to ensure our services provide excellent value for money.
The need for experience
Every project has utilities needs whether it be cable diversions, disconnections, new connections (demand or generation for low carbon technology).
Dealing with utility companies is often the last thing on a Project Manager’s list of priorities but the safety, programme and cost of your projects could be affected as you deal with technical issues and complex utilities legislation.
Our experience tells us that dealing with Statutory Utility companies is challenging and difficult to deal with. They are outside of the direct PM’s control, heavily regulated and work within rigorously enforced processes, procedures and timescales that often don’t align with the project needs
A lack of technical skills, knowledge of legislation and experience within the project team results in unrealistic delivery expectations being built into the main programmes leading to potential for delays and increased costs.
Services
- Project Management and other project support services.
- Asset record searches (C2 searches).
- Working collaboratively with Design Team and Statutory Undertakers to co-ordinate these utility plans in the BIM model.
- Identify/scoping of GPR and trial hole surveys for validation of design.
- Technical / Buildability reviews to identify clashes (utility impact assessments) and agree optimum solutions (can be protection instead of diversions).
- Management of consents/wayleaves/servitudes and easements process.
- Preparation/submission of DNO quotation requests (demand and generation) and commercial reviews of responses (to ensure cost sharing opportunities are maximized – VfM delivered).
- Identification of procurement strategies and sourcing of Supply chain partners for delivery of contestable works.
- Project Management of:
- New utility connections.
- Sites where low carbon technology is being installed e.g. onshore wind, solar PV, battery energy storage system, EV charging infrastructure.
- Diversionary works (management throughout C2-C9 process.
- Disconnections.
- Planning/scheduling of utility works packages and integration with main programme incl. monthly updates/reporting (using Primavera).
- Identification and management of risks/opportunities for utilities.
- Utility Construction support (on site assistance) to deal with any unforeseen events, co-ordination of utility works and management of any variations. We can also assist in improvements to Permit to Dig ensuring data is accurately represented in model and used in permit drawings.
- Commercial close out / final accounting.
