Guided Rail Ltd are a track and drainage design specialist consultancy based in North Yorkshire. We are a verified supplier under the Railway Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme (RISQS) certification process (supplier no. 7110).
Guided Rail was established in 2020 to bring together the expertise of founding directors: James Backhurst, Matthew Staveley and Neil Andrews. All three directors are members of the Permanent Way Institution (PWI) and have over 45 years’ combined experience of track and drainage design within the rail industry.
Our aim is to collaborate with clients on their project requirements from initiation through to detailed design drawings. We are able to deliver under the Governance for Railway Investment Projects (GRIP) management model.
Our directors have held engineering assurance roles at both Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) and Contractor’s Engineering Manager (CEM) levels. We strive to engage in continuous professional development in order to provide high levels of service to our customers.

Simple turnouts through to complex junction remodelling in both conventional and modular layouts.
Condition Assessments
Both plain line and switches and crossings. Drainage inspections from the start of the collector drainage through to the outfall.
Platform Extensions
Track/civils design interface and platform re-coper design work.
Depots and sidings
From simple dead ended sidings and complex fan arrangements to marshal rolling stock adjacent to mainlines. Depot design for train care and maintenance facilities.
