Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG): A brief overview – an incredible story
Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) set out in 2007 with just a handful of specialist services experts. They had the vision of becoming the UK’s leading provider of the full range of specialist services to the construction and FM sectors. Today, that vision has been realised.
PTSG operates five divisions, delivering façade access and fall arrest equipment services, lightning protection and electrical testing, high-level services, fire solutions and water treatment.
Premier Technical Services Group has grown to employ over 1,700 people at 41 office locations. This gives the Group a major edge in being able to mobilise its engineers to answer virtually any customer request, wherever in the UK it is. Whether the emergency call is for the dismantling of a damaged chimney (such as the chemical plant in Glasgow, where PTSG delivered a solution in under 45 hours in 2021) or a 40-year contract to provide multiple specialist services (such as for Newcastle Council, via first-tier contractor Engie), PTSG is ideally placed to answer it.
Shift in demand from single service to a one-stop shop
PTSG is out on its own in offering a range of specialist services under one roof. It has helped to define the Group as offering a complete solution, compared to its single-service competitors. While many contracts begin with the provision of a single specialist service or product, such as specialist building access or building compliance services, PTSG is often able to identify further services which are either essential to the safe operation of a building, or that would bring further benefits. This provides a far more focused approach and associated cost savings than finding and contracting a number of different companies to provide those specialist services.
The five divisions of PTSG are as follows – working independently or combining to deliver a complete specialist services solution:
- PTSG Access & Safety Ltd
- PTSG Electrical Services Ltd
- PTSG Building Access Specialists Ltd
- PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd
- PTSG Water Treatment Ltd

PTSG HELPS KEEP NATIONAL RAILWAY MUSEUM ON TRACK
In November 2021, PTSG was contracted to deliver specialist electrical repairs at the National Railway Museum in Shildon, County Durham.
Also known as Locomotion, it is part of the Science Museum Group. The museum was opened in October 2004 by the serving Prime Minister and local MP Tony Blair.
Built at a cost of £11.3 million, it is based on the former “Timothy Hackworth Victorian Railway Museum”. The museum is operated in partnership with Durham County Council and was expected to bring 60,000 visitors a year to the small town. However, during its first six months, the museum attracted 94,000 visits.
Engineers from PTSG Electrical Services Ltd carried out repairs to the lightning protection system in place at the museum. Lightning protection systems require periodic inspections by law. PTSG also performs these inspections, which highlight any repairs needed to ensure the system continues to be fully operational, in compliance with BS EN 62305.
