About us

The Railway Industry Association is the voice of the UK rail supply community, representing more than 300 railway companies across the sector.

RIA’s membership is active across the whole of railway supply, covering a diverse range of products and services and including both multi-national companies and SMEs (60% by number). RIA works to promote the importance of the rail system to UK plc, to help export UK expertise around the globe and to share best practice and innovation across the industry.

Its member companies represent a large proportion of the rail industry by turnover and reflect a great diversity of technical disciplines within the rail sector. The organisation’s mission remains very much the same as when it was established – to promote the value of the rail supply community across the UK – providing support to the industry through its Public Affairs & Policy, Technical & Innovation, Events & Information and Exports functions.

RIA is also a member of the Rail Innovation Family , a grouping of the UK’s major representative organisations in the rail supply sector, set up in June 2019 with the aim of providing greater and clearer support for suppliers seeking to bring innovation into the rail industry.

The Articles of Association set out how RIA is governed by a Board of rail industry leaders from the various sub sectors such as rolling stock, infrastructure, SMEs and consultants.

RIA Membership provides a number of benefits, helping you to navigate and succeed in the rail industry.
