Since its launch in 1988, Mainframe Communications has developed a wide range of optical fibre and associated management products for telecommunications operators. The company designs, manages, tests, and warehouses its range at a purpose-built Southend-on-Sea facility, with standard products available for next-day delivery. This manufacturing operation is BS EN 9001:2015 accredited, meaning that customers can have confidence in the quality of its products and services. With specialist design and technical teams, it serves some of the leading telecommunications operators in the UK and Europe.

Mainframe Communications has been supporting the rail industry for over 20 years. Today, it designs, manufactures, and supplies a range of products for rail and metro environments, including:

Mainframe Communication’s bespoke solutions are suitable for rail and metro projects of all sizes. Safety is a key concern, and all products are:

  • Designed to meet strict environmental specifications.
  • Rigorously tested at a UKAS-approved testing facility, guaranteeing compliance.
  • Supplied either from Mainframe’s standard range or as bespoke units.

The company also offers London Underground (LUL) approved and certified products, and supplies to Network Rail, Docklands Light Railway (DLR), and organisations in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Today, it works closely with rail signalling providers, maximising the performance of the optical fibre segment in their systems.

Key rail projects

Mainframe Communications has supported projects for London Underground, Istanbul Metro, Dubai Metro, and Hong Kong Metro. Key projects include:

2007 London Underground JNPU Comms Cabinets
Supporting Alcatel for LUL, Mainframe Communications provided cabinets to be used on the Underground Jubilee & Northern lines.

2009 – 2010 Istanbul Metro Relay Racks
Supporting Thales for Istanbul Metro, Mainframe Communications supplied relay racks and carried out Factory Acceptance Testing.

2009 – 2010 Mecca Metro CTF
Supporting Thales Canada for Mecca Metro, Mainframe Communications provided cable termination to be used on the Mecca Metro Rail Extension Project.

2016 – 2017 Hong Kong Metro CTF for MOS and EWL lines
Supporting Thales Canada for Hong Kong Metro, Mainframe Communications supplied cable termination frames, which were used on the Hong Kong Metro MOS and EWL lines.
