Company overview

Founded in 2010 as the Independent Research & Technology Organisation, the Manufacturing and Technology Centre (MTC) has a simple objective – to bridge the gap (or ‘valley of death’) between industry and academia.

The centre has grown rapidly since its first facility opened, establishing three new campuses (including the National Centre for Additive Manufacturing and the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre).

It has also expanded its remit, and now specialises in research and development (R&D), factory design, training, and advanced manufacturing management.

With a team of 700 employees, MTC supports hundreds of organisations across numerous industries.

Infrastructure

MTC works across a range of sectors, including infrastructure. Working closely with industry, it explores digital, manufacturing, and sustainable techniques that can be employed to upgrade the UK’s essential infrastructure.

This infrastructure includes railways, which are facing challenges like increased demand and climate change.
