The University of Southampton is a world-class centre for education, research and enterprise, and one of the largest and most diverse engineering groupings in the UK.

Our engineering achievements span three centuries, during which we have used sound science and creative engineering to help shape the world you know today.

We are one of the UK’s leading centres for engineering-related transport research. Working with organisations including the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the European Commission and Transport for London. Our research has helped to develop sustainable transport networks in leading cities worldwide.

Research covers both passenger and freight transport, and examining IT’s role in complementing or substituting transport.

We’re interested in how society influences technological developments in transport, commonly termed ‘intelligent transport systems’, and taking an inter-disciplinary approach involving engineering, economics and social sciences.
